Call for Government Action: Encouraging the Use of Local Printers by Federal Agencies

The Nigeria Medium and Large-Scale Printers League recently urged the Federal Government to promote the use of local printers within its Ministries, Departments, and Agencies. The league commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for assigning them the responsibility of producing election materials for the 2023 general elections.

In a joint statement by Chairman Yahaya Amfani and Secretary Ademola Kasumu, the organization emphasized the benefits of leveraging local service providers, aiming to reduce costs and maximize expertise. Encouraging the government to follow INEC's lead in supporting local businesses, the league highlighted the economic advantages of this approach. By promoting the use of indigenous resources and skills, the league emphasized the reduction of capital flight, fostering sustainable economic growth in the country.

The league viewed INEC's decision as a pivotal moment for Nigeria's local printing sector, contributing to significant savings for the nation. They expressed gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their advanced technologies and dedicated workforce, considering it a game-changer for the industry. Previously, most electoral materials had been sourced from overseas, but now, with INEC's support, the local print industry had the responsibility of manufacturing all materials for the 2023 General Election, resulting in the return of billions of Naira to the Nigerian economy.

Furthermore, the league emphasized that their commitment to utilizing local resources led to the direct employment of thousands of skilled individuals. This endeavor created employment opportunities not only for printers but also for vendors, artists, transporters, and various others, subsequently benefiting the broader community.

Their call to the Federal Government to promote the use of local printers stemmed from the belief that such a move would invigorate the Nigerian economy, empowering local businesses and encouraging the growth of various sectors. By endorsing the utilization of domestic expertise, the league envisioned a sustainable future for the printing industry and an overall positive impact on the country's economic landscape.
